Hunt with the villagers, forage with them and experience a untouched primitive world as you witness lifestyles unchanged for centuries and the strange skill of shark calling.

Day 1 - Arrive Kavieng

Welcome to Papua New Guinea and the town of Kavieng. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your accommodation. Being the capital of New Ireland, Kavieng is the only town of any size in the province – you’ll find it remarkably quiet, with few cars in the streets. The seaside ambience, with its fisheries wharf and bustling market in the shade of huge trees, is a taste of genuine island life. Dinner this evening is included. (D)

Day 6 - Namatanai to Rabaul

This morning you will travel by bus from Kavieng to Namatanai before catching a public motor boat and ferry to Rabaul. Upon arrival at Kokopo, you will be met by your guide and transfer to Rapopo Resort. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Rabaul now has two main parts to it. The old town which is like stepping into an apocalyptic film thanks to Mt Tavurvur errupting in 1994 and covering the town in ash and the new town, which is still being reborn since the previous devastation of the volcano.

With Mt Tavurvur still very much active, you can see the cylindrical cone from almost anywhere on the island, with its gentle puff of steam and occasional plumes of smoke. (B)

3 nights Rapopo Resort

Day 7 - Rabaul

Today you will head off to explore the fascinating and fast developing town of Kokopo as well enjoy a volcano tour and visit to the hot springs.

Kokopo started to develop just after Rabaul was flattened by the volcanic eruptions of 1994. It is an organised town with a fascinating bustling market. As you explore the surrounds of the volcano, you may see lava flows and steam coming out of its vents. Natural hot springs are also in the area where you will find locals boiling eggs! (B)

Day 8 - Rabaul

This morning you will depart to explore the fascinating WWII sites of Rabaul. These include a fascinating museum of planes, tanks war time machinery. You will also visit Admiral Yamamoto’s command bunker and the fascinating hospital which is in caves under the ground! There are Japanese tunnels and caverns in the hillsides all around Rabaul. The bunker is rather austere – look for the map on the ceiling for plotting world domination. (B)

Day 9 - Port Moresby

Today you will return to Port Moresby where on arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure. (B,D)
