Mogadishu was once a powerful and commercially important port city, more than two decades of violence and government instability have caused what many fear may be irreparable damage to its inhabitants, its economy, and its infrastructure. A peak inside this challenging city sparks the curiosity of many inquisitive travellers - now is your chance to have a rare glimpse at this offbeat city.
Day 1 - Arrive in Mogadishu
Welcome to Somaliland! Upon arrival, our representatives will assist you on obtaining your visa. You will then be transferred to your hotel for your briefing followed by a trip into Mogadishu. You will be taken on an orientation tour around the city including an opportunity to go swimming at Lido beach, walk through the ruined Italian colonial architecture and see the monument dedicated to the unknown soldier. You will have an opportunity to use the security teams experience and that of a local fixer who has worked with a number of journalists to get an insight into life in Mogadishu today. (D)
2 nights in a local guesthouse
Day 2 - Mogadishu
Once again, armed with your security team and fixer you’ll be able to visit the markets, bazaars and beaches of this traumatised yet vibrant city. This will include the harbour and lighthouse area. (B,D)
Day 3 - Departure
Following breakfast, your security escort will drop you at the airport to catch your flight. (B)
You will be accompanied by an experienced English speaking Somali guide/translator and a four man security detail for the entire time you are out of the guest house.
