Discover a hidden frontier behind dizzying mountains, far from any semblance of civilisation. Ziyadum is situated about 70km north-west of Putao with an altitude at 3540ft above sea level. It is one of the last frontier villages in northern Myanmar. Beautiful with pristine forests and rivers crossed only by primitive suspension bridges. Ziyadum is the centre point for many mountains in the area such as Mt Phonyin, Mt Ziya, Pangram Razi and Phangran Razi, all of which are perennially snow-capped mountains and can be seen as close as a hands reach away on a clear day.  Join us as we explore this remote and untouched land - a region few travellers have ventured to.

Day 1 - Arrival Yangon

Welcome to Mynamar! Upon arrival at Yangon International Airport, you will be welcomed by your English speaking guide and embark on a journey to explore the Yangon highlights. Starting from the colonial-style city centre and one of the landmarks, Sule Payastupa –built over 2,000 years ago and the focal point of numerous historical events in  the city. Head to Chauk Htat Gyi pagoda to view its magnificent reclining Buddha, and Karaweik Hall to marvel at the uniquely decorated ‘hamsa’, a bird-shaped spiritual icon, on Kandawgyi (Royal) Lake. You will visit Bogyoke (Scotts) Market, where hundreds of gemstones, handicrafts, art, clothes and food stores are tucked in a maze of colour. You finish the day with a visit to one of the world’s most spectacular monuments, the Shwedagon Pagoda, a gold covered bell dome structure that dominates the city’s skyline. Legend has it that strands of sacred Buddha’s hair are enshrined here. The Shwedagon is an iconic symbol of the country, a sight not to be missed. This evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (D)

Putao lies in a flat valley, a popular jumping off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains. Putao town was built throughout 1914-15 by Commissioner Mr Hertz along with the Fort, which later became known as Fort Hertz. Later, a missionary based in the area working with the Rawan and Lisu tribes introduced grapefruit, Washington naval oranges, Valencia oranges, Ruby oranges, King oranges and King Mandarin, plus American lime, all of which are now popular in the area. After a brief break to freshen up, you will take an orientation walk through Putao town. (B,L,D)

Early this morning, you will visit the attractive Putao market which is often filled with colourful ethnic minorities. Later you depart by jeep to upper Shangaung, a 20km journey through the valley via several smaller villages and open green fields. Your adventure starts as you leave the jeep and begin the trek to Wasandum, located 2844ft above sea level. This is considered a challenging trek as the trail leads upwards towards the shoulder of Mt Shanguang. The trek is approx 20km, 7 hours. the first 10km are straight along the trail winding up to the top of Mt Shangaung. From there, the trail goes down to Wasandum located in the Valley of Namro River. Although the trek itself is challenging, it feels less so as the trek goes deep into primary forests where we see many birds and the sounds of monkeys in the distance. Wasandum is a small village of the Rawan tribe situated on Namro Creek. (B,L,D)
